Celtic Woman - You Raise Me Up

Celtic Woman
You Raise Me Up
Lyrics

When I am down and, oh my soul, so weary;
When troubles come and my heart burdened be;
Then, I am still and wait here in the silence,
Until you come and sit awhile with me.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up: To more than I can be.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up: To more than I can be.

There is no life - no life without its hunger;
Each restless heart beats so imperfectly;
But when you come and I am filled with wonder,
Sometimes, I think I glimpse eternity.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up: To more than I can be.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up: To more than I can be.

You raise me up: To more than I can be.

Cycling

Road races are held outdoors between towns or around

may races
 Cycling, or bicycle racing, is one of the most popular sports in the world. Cycling is especially popular in Europe where millions of fans follow the feats of great cyclists. Cycling has been an event in the Olympic Games since the modern games originated in 1896. There are three chief kinds of cycling—track races, road races, and motocross races. Each kind requires a distinct type of bicycle.

Track races are held on oval tracks called velodromes. On most cycling tracks, both ends of the track slope inward at a steep angle. Velodromes may be located indoors or outside. Most championship events take place outdoors on tracks ranging from 250 to 500 metres. Indoor tracks range from 185 to 200 metres.

Cycling, or bicycle racing, is one
of the most popular sports in the world.

Championship events are held for individuals and for teams of two or four cyclists. These races can be individual sprints (short races) as short as 800 metres or team races 100 kilometres long. Some races are time trials, in which racers are timed over a set distance. A pursuit is a special kind of time trial that starts with two individuals or teams at opposite sides of the track. The winner is the individual or team that finishes the course first or passes an opponent before the race ends.

Bicycle Road Racing

A track bicycle has no brakes and only one gear. The cyclist slows down or stops the bike by pushing back on the pedals. The cyclist may also press a gloved hand against the front tyre to stop.

Road races are the original, and most popular, forms of cycling. Hundreds of cyclists may start a race. They cycle over a course between two towns, or around a specific route for a set number of laps.

Cycling is especially popular in Europe
where millions of fans follow the
feats of great cyclists.

The most popular road race is the annual Tour de France in which more than 100 contestants race through Europe. The Tour lasts about 24 days and covers about 4,000 kilometres. The distance is divided into sections called stages. Cyclists are timed in each stage. The cyclist who completes all the stages in the lowest total time is the winner.

Get Out And Get Cycling
The bicycles used in road races have frames made of special lightweight alloy tubing. They have brakes and handmade narrow tyres. These bicycles have a gear system that includes a derailleur, a mechanism that shifts the bicycle chain from one gear to another.

Bicycle motocross races became popular in the 1970s, especially among young people. The races are often called BMXbicycle moXo-cross). They are held on dirt tracks less than 400 metres long. The tracks have many bumps and sharp turns. The cyclists ride bicycles that have small wheels and wide tyres to help prevent them from slipping in the turns. Bicycle motocross racers wear hard helmets and padded clothing for protection against falls, which occur frequently. See also Bicycle; Olympic Games (table: Cycling).

Singing

Eric Clapton - Wonderful Tonight

Singing is the production of musical tones by the human voice with or without words. Singing is a natural form of expression found in cultures and societies throughout the world.

Singing may be accompanied by instrumental music, or it may be a cappella (without instrumental accompaniment). This article discusses how people sing, the major voice classifications, and voice training for the individual singer. For information on group singing, see Classical music (Choral music).

Ray-Ban

How people sing. Singing is produced in the same general way that a musical wind instrument creates sound—by causing a column of air to vibrate. A person sings by drawing air into the lungs and exhaling it past the vocal cords. The vocal cords are two folds of tissue that stretch across the larynx (voice box) in the throat. The movement of the air against the vocal cords and the surface of the throat and mouth causes vibrations that create the sound of the voice.

Because the vocal cords are elastic, the pitch of tones produced when the cords vibrate may be varied, depending on the degree of tension. The more tightly the vocal cords are stretched, the higher the pitch. The more relaxed the vocal cords, the lower the pitch. A man's vocal cords tend to be longer, wider, and thicker than those of a woman. As a result, a man's-voice tends to be an octave or more lower than a woman's voice.

Voice classification. Both men's and women's voices fall into three general categories of pitch—high, middle, and low. Within these categories, voices are classified into six basic types. From highest to lowest in pitch, they are soprano, mezzo-soprano, and contralto for women; and tenor, baritone, and bass for men. Most voices belong in the mezzo-soprano and baritone categories. See also Opera. (The singers).

Training the voice. Singing is a natural function and it requires no training to perform simple music. But serious singing makes special demands on the voice. Therefore, a singer requires special training to perform opera and other difficult music. Singers study and train to develop and improve four basic singing skills: (1) breath control, (2) a broad range, (3) smoothness throughout the range, and (4) good resonance.

Breath control allows a singer to perform long musical phrases in a single breath. The singer learns to breathe freely and naturally, filling the lungs from the bottom upward and expanding the chest cavity so that the lungs take in the maximum amount of air. The singer must learn how to release the air with evenly controlled pressure. The actions of muscles in the abdomen and chest cavities help the singer to achieve this goal.

A broad range allows a singer to correctly produce a wide span of notes from low to high. The singer's range determines his or her voice category. Training helps singers to produce the easy mid-range tones comfortably, and also the highest and lowest tones of which they are capable. Most untrained people can sing over a range of about 1} octaves or less. But trained singers usually have a range of about two octaves.

Smoothness throughout the range means that a singer produces no audible breaks in the voice when moving from one tone to another. Some experts believe the voice is composed of either two or three registers (groups of tones within, the range). They believe that the untrained singer whose voice breaks is moving from one register to another at the moment of the break. However, other experts believe that the entire range is composed of only one register, and that breaks result from other causes. All agree that the singer should be able to sing smoothly throughout the range, with no abrupt changes in the quality of the tone.

Good resonance strengthens and beautifies the tone. Resonance takes place as the tone vibrates in the cavities of the throat, mouth, chest, and face. Resonance occurs naturally and cannot be directly controlled by the singer. However, to allow this action to take place, the singer learns to open the throat by relaxing the throat muscles. The singer also learns how to relax the jaw and lips and where to properly place the tongue.

Other singing skills. Singers should learn to read music notation (the signs and symbols) and understand music terms. For example, where the term messa di voce appears, the voice must increase the volume gradually from pianissimo (very soft) to fortissimo (very loud), and then back again. Singers also learn how to sing trills, whiGh are quick alternations of two adjacent musical tones, and how to control vibrato, a vibrating sound made up of slight, rapid changes in pitch. Clear diction (speech) is important so the lyrics can be understood.

Women Of India: Goddess, Starlets And Sex Crime Victims

Protest against a shocking gang rape of a 23-year old student. A group of protestors gathering at the Jantar Mantar, New Delhi. They also had candle light marches within the vicinity by shouting slogan of, " We want Justice."

News Without Borders
Women of India: Women of India Living in Fear
(Goddess, Starlets And Sex Crime Victims)
By Saraswathi Muniappan

Women living in fear

NEW DELHI (Bernama) - The depreciation of the Rupee and India's unfolding economic woes may not be the utmost concern for the average Indian woman.
What matters most to the fairer sex in India for now is their safety in public places or, for that matter, home, office, anywhere.
If the latest alleged sexual assault in Jodhpur, Rajasthan is anything to go by, women in this once fabled land of maharajahs are not safe even in the company of their venerated godman.
It is ironic that this is the country that has seen women in top positions - prime minister Indira Gandhi, president Prathibha Patel; countless Bollywood starlets who are literally the face of India - Aishwarya Rai, Deepika Padukone, Katrina Kaif; and where countless goddess are worshipped across the landscape.
Yet, in the land where Shah Jahan immortalised his eternal love for his wife Mumtaz Mahal with one of the seven wonders of the world, the Taj Mahal, women are subjected to atrocities from womb to tomb.
Sex selection abortion, female infanticide, sexual assault, forced prostitution, dowry killings and acid attacks has made India an unwelcome place for women.

INDIANS HAVE HAD ENOUGH
Activists of All Indian Democratic Women's Association
and Students Federation of India shout slogans during
 a protest in Hyderabad, India, Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012.
The hours-long gang-rape and near-fatal beating of a
23-year-old student on a bus in New Delhi triggered
outrage and anger across the country as Indians
demanded action from authorities who have
long ignored persistent violence and harassment
against women. (AP Photo/Mahesh Kumar A.)

Crimes against women appear to be endemic in this sub-continent of more than 1.2 billion people, with the high profile fatal rape incident on a bus in New Delhi in December 2012 unraveling the perturbing malaise in India.
However, one has to be fair to India, atrocities against women also happens elsewhere including in developed countries. Yet the alarming spate of atrocities against women in recent years has created a paranoia on women's safety.
Many women groups fear that misogyny runs deep in the male dominated Indian society, hence the rise in atrocities against Indian women who in the last few decades have stepped into many of the male domains.
Nonetheless, Indians are deeply frustrated because with each passing day more women end up being sexually abused or harrassed, attacked or even murdered.
This despite the various measures taken by the government - severe punishment for the perpetrators, introduction of help line and increasing the number of women in the police force.
The women and the authorities seem to be at their wits end as it seems there is nothing to stop or help reduce crimes against women of India who are often vulnerable and lack empowerment.
A netizen, who tweets by the name @captain_speakin has aptly described the frustration of Indians; "We go through the same five stages after every incident that shakes us - 1. Anger 2. Outrage 3. Helpless 4. Acceptance 5. Apathy... Nothing changes."
According to "Crime in India 2012" report, a total of 244,270 crimes including rape and assault on women transcending different age groups were reported in 2012, an increase by 6.8 per cent from 228,650 in 2011.

THE RECORDS DON'T TELL THE TRUE STORY
Nonetheless, the statistics do not reflect the true picture as many cases go unreported due to the social stigma feared by the highly conservative Indian society.
This writer based in New Delhi, the national capital that has earned the unenviable moniker 'India's rape capital', vouches that living in India could well be an agonising experience for women.
News report of kids as young as two and five years old being raped every other day tells the chilling truth how dangerous India can be for a woman.
In July, in a macabre incident, a five-year old was raped and brutally stabbed 80 times in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.
And the perpetrators not only involve vicious individuals and gangs but even the self styled holy men of India, whose reputation of being sexual predators under the guise of spirituality is nothing new.
The recent arrest of Asaram Bapu, a self styled guru from Jodhpur with a following of millions across the globe, over allegations that he sexually assaulted a 16-year-old girl at his retreat reveals the dark side among many of the holymen.
This episode comes at the heels of another highly publicised recent incident in Mumbai where a 23-year old photojournalist was gang raped by five men in Mumbai while on assignment.
These incidents serve as a grim reminder for the Indian women that sexual predators are lurking in every corner of the country and that there is no safe haven for them.
In a nutshell, it is a daily battle for women in this part of the world in ensuring their safety. One is neither safe at home nor on the streets.

OTHER WOMEN ARE NOT SPARED AS WELL
This writer has also come across incidents of Malaysian women in New Delhi facing sexual harassment or other inappropriate demeanours.
A Malaysian in her 30s had related to this writer that during a train ride, a co-passenger whose sleeping compartment was just above hers tried to touch her intimate part by slipping his hands through the gaps.
"That was a horrible experience. I was so scared that I never slept throughout the eight-hour journey to my destination," said the Malaysian, who wanted to remain anonymous.
"I will never, ever travel in a train in India. At least not alone," she said. Another Malaysian, who was here as a solo tourist ended fearing for her life after the hotel manager tried to force his way into her room on the pretext of providing 'special service'.
She reacted fast by jamming the door handle with a coffee table and called a Malaysian friend who she knew in New Delhi for help.

THE WRITER'S OWN EXPERIENCE
Now has this writer come across any incident in India that can be considered an affront to a woman's dignity? Many times. At post offices, markets, or even posh malls, where despite ample space, men will try to rub against women.
Though I prepared myself for a lot of challenges that could come my way as a journalist in India, but I was not prepared to face unsavoury characters and people who have no respect for women.
I could still recall getting a sharp chilling stare from a few men in a train, obviously they might have had some bad intentions.
What did I do? I just stared back and walked away to another coach of the metro rail. Ironically, it all happened during the Delhi gang rape protest where the metro was the only way to get to the nearest location.
Nevertheless, there are still two sides of India with the other being a country rich in history and legacy, and its people highly cultured and with great sense of hospitality.

Asia's Wealthiest Women

Normally, the richer they are, the more issues they
have over how to protect their assets and
business succession - Saw Leong Aun
Where there’s a will, there’s peace of mind
Posted on 20 September 2013 - 05:37am
Kang Siew Li
KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 20, 2013): Hong Kong's late billionaire Nina Wang, once Asia's wealthiest woman. Her case captivated Asia after her former lover was convicted of forging her will and was sentenced to 12 years in prison back in February 2010.
Macau casino magnate Stanley Ho. In January 2011, the public saw a bitter feud among his three surviving wives and 17 children over the family empire.
Thanks to these much-publicised cases, more high-income Malaysians have come forward to seek advice on estate-planning affairs, said Rockwills Corp Sdn Bhd group managing director and director Saw Leong Aun (pix).
Saw said the group's unit Rockwills Advisory Services Sdn Bhd (RAS), which was established in 2010 to offer comprehensive estate planning, has witnessed a surge in business as more rich clients and businessmen seek to protect their assets.
"Many of these businessmen are multi-millionaires. As they get richer, the more worries they have (over how to protect their assets).
"For example, some worry whether their daughter's boyfriend marry her for love or for money. Then there are those with overseas investments and assets and they want to know how they can minimise the tax liabilities," he told SunBiz in an interview.
"That's where we (RAS) come in to help them put together a comprehensive estate planning package that will lay out what will happen to their assets and the individuals under their care after they pass away," he added.
While the advisory segment has grown, the majority of Rockwills Group's business still comes from its will writing and trust services as well as franchise fees.
Saw noted that awareness about will writing and trust services among Malaysians have grown over the years, albeit "not very much". "Today, if you talk to 10 people, four to five will know about wills and trusts."
He revealed that there is greater awareness in areas like the Klang Valley, Penang and Johor Baru where the levels hover at 40% to 50% of the population and 20%-30% for the smaller towns.
Saw attributed the higher awareness to Kuala Lumpur-based Rockwills having set up four regional offices in Penang, Johor Baru, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu.
"Another reason why the awareness is increasing faster now is that many (independent) financial planners have signed up with us to promote this service to offer a complete package. Today, we have 3,000 registered agents across the country.
"For the other areas, while the awareness of wills and trusts has improved, it is not as high as that of unit trust and insurance.
One of the main reasons is that we are the only (will writing) company promoting this business," he added.
Saw said most bank trustees and law firms deal with corporate clients rather than individuals due to higher will-writing or trust charges and is less time consuming.
"Will writing for individuals is more personal. The process (relative to corporate clients) is different, lengthy and tedious.
"For example, signing a loan agreement uses the same template, but setting up a trust or drawing up a will entails sitting down with the person, understanding their situation and drafting these clauses. Then the charges are only RM500," he explained.
"Also, if you are a good client of the company, you may request to only see the senior partner (to discuss matters). But as a senior partner (of the company), how do I keep myself from spending time with one client all the time?

"And after drafting the will, there will be changes and that involves redrafting. If you count the time spent, business-wise it is not worth it for them (bank trustees and law firms). Also, they can only do a few. So, there's no economies of scale," Saw added.
For Rockwills, over time it has set up a system that encompasses some 300 will precedents and reference clauses based on Parker's Modern Wills Precedents to suit all requirements.
"We also have about 30 in-house legal advisers to help draft clauses in special conditions," said Saw.
Saw noted that there is a growing trend of clients who seek to write terms of endearment to the guardians in their will.
"We started offering clients the option to include special clauses and instructions to their loved ones which need not relate to money in their will some 10 years ago when a group of ladies asked to include special words in their wills after one of their friends died of a heart attack, without leaving any last word," Saw said, adding that such a request constitutes about 10% of the 800 to 1,000 wills that Rockwills handle a month.
At the same time, the death of celebrities such as Michael Jackson and Anita Mui has left people to become more aware of preparing for the eventuality, he added.
Saw believes that the local will-writing industry is a sunrise business. Statistics showed that 95% of Malaysian adults are still without a will.
Founded in 1995, Rockwills is owned by its chairman Johari Low Abdullah, Saw, Datuk Seri Goh Eng Toon of former Ban Hin Lee Bank, Dr Lee Chee Koon and Cerilnus Tan@Cyril Pinso.
With about 120 employees in Malaysia, Rockwills has written about 150,000 wills and holds over RM2 billion worth of assets under trust to date.
The group realised a gross turnover of RM25 million last year, covering both Malaysia and Singapore.
"We still have a long way to go. If you compare us with the insurance or unit trust companies, everybody is aware of their products because there are many players. That's why we still spend a great deal of time educating people on wills and trusts," said Saw.
